This chair is designed for women to reconnect with their pelvic floor by challenging traditional ways of sitting.

The concept emerged from research into gendered ergonomics and stool design. During this process, I discovered the old danish "Malkepigeskammel" — a milking stool used exclusively by women. It was a three-legged chair that allowed for tilting and included a central elevation between the thighs to prevent sliding. This specific feature in the seat caught my interest.

What if I exaggerated the elevation?
It raised a question: Is it possible to reconnect with your body through the act of sitting? And what would a chair look like if it were designed specifically for the female anatomy?

This led me to explore gendered sitting positions. Men are more likely to sit with their legs spread in an "open" posture, while women tend to cross their legs or sit in a more "closed" manner. But how does this affect us? Our posture influences our mental state— so why should women habitually take up less space than men?

With "A Chair for Reconnection (Female)", I tried to bring all these ideas together in a single design. The elevated section in the center of the seat invites exploration with the lower body, encouraging pelvic floor awareness through acupressure points. The shorter front and back legs allow for gentle tilting and shifting of pressure. And thanks to the saddle-like seat, the preferred sitting position involves open legs — inviting women to become more conscious of their habitual posture.
